garmin 255w gps prices
good GPS system for traveling?
i am going to florida this summer with some friends and i have never been to where we are going and i would like a GPS for other trips also. i was looking at the garmin nuvi 255W. but for 300 i dont know if i can get something better. also 300$ is alittle high priced so if there is another GPS that is as good or better for less money that would be good to know
I recommend Garmin nüvi 760.
I’ve been using GPS since the first satellites were in place twenty years ago. I consider GPS navigation to be as important a technological leap as the airplane itself. After all, humans have been wondering where they were and how to get somewhere else at least as long as they’ve been dreaming about flight. I first used GPS in aviation. GPS units replaced inertial navigation units with improved accuracy at a tiny fraction of the cost of inertial units. In my book Garmin has always been way out there in front of the pack. That’s been true with aviation GPS, marine GPS, automotive uses and every other use I can think of. Other well-known producers of electronic equipment, such as Sony, struck out with GPS. The Nuvi 760 simply overwhelms earlier models in that its satellite acquisition time, computing speed and screen clarity/visibility are far superior. Pure dynamite performance. The only thing I think Garmin could do better with this unit would be to provide an altitude readout in their primary display. Most folks, even landlubbers, are interested in their altitude. The 760 does determine altitude, but the method of viewing that altitude is a bit cumbersome, requiring extra screen taps. Even Rand McNally shows altitude readouts on their road maps, as do highway signs in the real world. With their background in aviation, I think it is particularly frustrating that Garmin units do not display altitude as a primary readout.
